Evelyn's Story

Evelyn M. (Martineau) Washburn, 80, a longtime resident of Corinth, passed away Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017, at Glens Falls Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 20, 1937, in Lewis, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Francis and Hazel (Pulsifer) Denton.
She attended Elizabeth-Lewis Central School.
Evelyn married Alfred Martineau on June 22, 1958, and the couple resided in New Russia for several years. He passed away Dec. 16, 1973. She then married Harry Washburn on Aug. 15, 1987, and the couple resided in Corinth for many years. He passed away Jan. 14, 1995.
She was employed as a nurses aide for several years at Westmount Nursing Home in Queensbury and Horace Nye Nursing Home in Elizabethtown. She also was employed at the U.S. Post Office in New Russia for several years.
Evelyn was a member of the Corinth Grange and attended the First United Methodist Church and the Corinth Free Methodist Church.
She loved cooking and baking, bingo, playing scratch off tickets, puzzles, books, and especially enjoyed her time spent with her family.
Besides her husbands and her parents, she was also predeceased by one brother, Frank "Sonny" Denton and one sister, Dorothy Smith-Watts.
Survivors include four children, Lyman Martineau (Tina) of Canton, Cindy Christman (Warren) of Ft. Plain, Brian Martineau (Tammy) of Corinth, and Anita Wester (Ernie) of Corinth; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Gabrielle, Matthew, Katie, Nick, Brian, Brittany, and Joe; two great-grandchildren, Derek and David; eight siblings, Harry Denton (Cecile) of New Russia, Larry Denton (Betty) of Lewis, Edwin Denton (Carol) of Lewis, Junita Pritchard (Harry) of Rome, Russell Denton (Barbara) of Lewis, Allen Denton (Janet) of Lewis, Kathleen Taylor (Charles) of Harrington, Del., and Raymond Denton (Joann) of Lewis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, September 18, at the Densmore Funeral Home, Inc., 7 Sherman Ave., Corinth.
Services will be held at noon, Tuesday, September 19, at the First Congregational Church, Rt. 9, Lewis, with the Rev. Bonnie Bates, officiating.
Burial will follow at Lewis Cemetery, Rt. 9, Lewis.
The family wishes to thank to the staff at Tower Three at Glens Falls Hospital and at The Stanton Nursing Home South Wing for their kindness and care given to Evelyn during her illness.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials take the form of donations to the Lewis Vol Fire. Dept., 18 Firehouse Lane, Lewis, NY 12950.
