Eugene H. Burnell Jr., 66, formerly of Anderson Road, passed away on Friday, Nov. 17, 2017, at the CVPH Medical Center.
He was born in Elizabethtown, N.Y., on Aug. 16, 1951, the son of Eugene H. and Vera F. (Hargett) Burnell Sr.
Eugene served in the United States Marine Corp from 1969-1974 during the Vietnam War.
He worked as a Substance Abuse Counselor for 12 years and retired from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora.
He love spending time fishing and camping with his family. Most of all was the love he had for his nieces and nephews. Nothing brought him greater joy than the memories he shared with them.
Survivors include four sisters, Claudia (Ellsworth "Spud") Brown of Belle Vernon, Pa., Faith Spears of Plattsburgh, Wendy Decker of Plattsburgh, and Donna (Tim) Stanton of Ganesvoort, N.Y.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nephews. He also leaves behind Christopher DeMarco and his family, who was like a son to Eugene.
He was predeceased by his parents and four brothers-in-law, Donald Spears, Warren Wagner, Robert Conklin Sr., and Douglas Decker.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 21st from 4 to 7 p.m. at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Dannemora in the spring.
