Ernest E. "Ernie" Burl, 90, of the O'Neill Road, Beekmantown, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at his home with his loving family by his side under the care of Hospice of the North Country. He was born in Altona, N.Y., on Oct. 25, 1927, the son of Gilbert and Gladys (Premo) Burl. Ernie was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy Sea Bees. He retired from Broderick Motors where he was a mechanic and tow truck operator. Ernie enjoyed bowling and working on his Studebaker. He was a Life Member of the VFW Post 1466, Beekmantown, where he had served as Post Commander and he traveled to Washington, DC on the North Country Honor Flight. Ernie was also a member of the Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers. He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Shirley Burl, his brothers, Arthur, Donald and Robert Burl; and his sisters, Pearl Kowalski and Maude Daniels.
Ernie is survived by his wife Eunice (Lombard) Burl of Beekmantown; his children, Ernest D. Burl of Plattsburgh, Elaine (Bruce) Pitts of Plattsburgh, Betty Burl and her companion Greg Blow of Plattsburgh; his brothers, Norman Burl and his companion Barbara Caska of Plattsburgh, Uyless Burl of Plattsburgh, Robert Shea of Peru, a sister, Shirley Sipos of North Carolina; his stepchildren, Mary (Ricky) Mooney of Plattsburgh, JoAnn (Scott) Ferris of Beekmantown, Wally (Barbara) Howard, II, Peggy McClatchie of Plattsburgh; several grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 29 Broad St. in Plattsburgh. Members of V.F.W. Post 1466 will meet at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. for services. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Seymour, Pastor at St. Alexander's Church in Morrisonville officiating.
Interment will be held at a later date at Holy Angels Cemetery in Altona
