Elizabeth "Betty" Sumner of Meadowbrook Healthcare, passed away, Feb. 14, 2018.
She was born in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Oct. 3, 1924, the daughter of the Rev. Clyde R. and Blossom (Jewett) Sumner.
Betty was a graduate of Hoosac Valley central School, Class of 1942, and received her BA degree in languages from Houghton College, Houghton, N.Y., in 1946. She taught languages for one year at Delevan Central School in Delevan, N.Y. She then moved to Vermont where she did substitute teaching and worked in a country store.
She took graduate courses at the University of Vermont, Syracuse University and the State University Colleges at Plattsburgh and Genesso. She became certified as a Library Media Specialist. She was employed for 16 years at the Cumberland Head Elementary School as a library assistant.
She had been a member of the Northern Adirondack Library Association and a member of the American Association of University Women. For many years she was on the board of the Mooers Camp Meeting Association. She and her sister, Alice, managed the book store at Mooers Camp for many summers. She was a member of the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth is predeceased by her sister, Alice Sumner.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at 10 a.m. in the R.W. Walker Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven, Vt.
Friends wishing to make donations in her memory may give to the Plattsburgh United Methodist Church or the Mooers Camp Meeting Association.
