Eileen Mary Tedford
Born Nov. 19, 1924, on Palmer Hill in Au Sable Forks, she was the eldest child of Thomas E. and Winifred (Wallace) O'Brien. She grew up in Wilmington, N.Y., and was a graduate of Au Sable Forks High School, class of 1942. After graduation she was employed at General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y. On June 1, 1946, she married William Tedford at St. Margaret's Church in Wilmington. They recently celebrated their 72nd anniversary.
Eileen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family. She dedicated herself to their care and well being, always putting others before herself. She was extremely proud of the accomplishments of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, following them in the local paper or in earlier years traveling to events to see them. Large family gatherings were held at her home, especially at Christmas with abundant food and laughter.
Eileen was a member of Holy Name Church in Au Sable Forks. Proud of her Irish heritage, she was a lover of music and played the organ at church as a girl. She was very interested in current events and was a fan of Notre Dame Football and the New England Patriots. She enjoyed traveling with her husband after his retirement. Eileen and Bill were fortunate to stay together in their home until March of this year.
Eileen is survived by her husband William (Bill) Tedford, six children and their spouses, Kathleen (Joseph) Gondek of Chazy, William (Linda) Tedford of Galway, Jane (John) Thomas of Au Sable Forks, Anne (Mark) Frazier of Peru, Sue (Mark) Cook of Plattsburgh and Thomas (Dena) Tedford of Peru.
She was a proud grandmother of fourteen grandchildren: PJ and Chris Gondek, Maureen, Laura and Kara Tedford, Michael and Brian Thomas and Erin Galarneau, Andrew and Scott Frazier, and Daniel Tedford, Lindsey St Clair, Megan and Adam Tedford.
She is survived by eight great-grandchildren, a brother Lawrence O'Brien of San Diego, Calif., sister-in-law Barbara O'Brien of Hyde Park, N.Y., sister-in-law Norma Fraking of Glenville, N.Y., and brother-in-law Dick Gray of Scotia, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Jean Mousseau.
She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters: Catherine Dillon and Winifred Mousseau and three brothers: Thomas, John and Harold (Hugh) O'Brien, two sisters-in-law: Helen Gray and Catherine Bullis.
There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 30th, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Holy Name Church, Ausable Forks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the North Country. Burial will be in Holy Name Cemetery.
