Dr. Rebecca

Dr. Rebecca "Becky" Kasper (sometimes called "Becker Sue"), 56, beloved professor, former city councilor, and lifelong activist, died on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.
From her world travels to her band Corduroy Planet, it was clear to anyone who met her that Becky never stopped chasing dreams. She was a writer, a musician, a gardener, a hiker, and a champion to the underprivileged and disabled. She loved Kurt Vonnegut, Hillary Clinton, and claiming to beat everyone at poker.
Becky was determined to leave the world a better place than she found it. The proof of her success can be seen no matter where you look-in her raspberry bushes and rescued animals, in the admiration of her colleagues and friends, in the countless achievements of her many students. The lives touched by Becky's generosity are innumerable.
She is survived by her mother and father, Lillian and Robert Kasper, her sisters, Mary Kay Kasper and Theresa Kasper-Miller (husband Richard Miller), her brother, Michael Kasper (wife Suzanne Soares), her niece and nephew, Jessica Kramer (husband Dustin Kramer) and Connor Miller, her dog, Belle, and three persnickety cats.
They all very much wish they could have one last afternoon on her back porch-perhaps accompanied by a round of shots and miniature cigars-to let her know how deeply she will be missed.
Visitation will be held at the R.W. Walker Funeral Home on Monday, May 13th from 3 to 6 p.m. or until the last guest has been greeted. A Service of Remembrance will follow on Tuesday, May 14th at 11 a.m. in Hyman and Frances Krinovitz Recital Hall located in Hawkins Hall at SUNY Plattsburgh.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the family to establish a scholarship in Becky's memory that will reflect her passions for education and activism, as well as her dedication to those among us most in need.

Dr. Kasper taught me more about my own personal faith system in one semester than 11 years of perfect attendance at Sunday school ever did. I still distinctly remember lessons she taught us and how she pushed us to find the good in humanity even in the midst of all that seemed evil. Her passion will be carried on in the lives she touched and in the faith she pushed them to find.

Rest in Peace Dr. Kasper. Best Professor St Joseph’s College ever had. You taught us how to be fearless in life, reach for the highest mountains while never to forget where you come from and how to help others on your way up. Also you taught us how to respect people of all backgrounds and religions because they were all equally humans and beautiful creations of God. Thanks for your teaching. Kisses to heaven.

My memories of Becky as a wise and generous colleague at SUNY Plattsburgh are unfailingly good, full of optimism and the inspiration we can feel when we see someone else making a path that we too can follow, or try creating anew for ourselves and others. She was a bright light for me and for many students and faculty members. I am so deeply saddened to hear of her loss. My most heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.

Becky and I went through high school together. Becky had an awesome personality, a wonderful smile, and an unselfish heart.
While I was attending Clinton Community College's Nursing Program, Dr. Becky was a Professor in the English Department. I went to Becky to discuss a dilemma I had with my English Adjunct. Becky reviewed all aspects of the situation, and went the distance for me. She made the extra steps to have me attend an one-on-one English class with her. Dr. Becky was a student advocate, caring for and always putting the student's education first.
I had the privilege of knowing Becky as a classmate, as a person, and as a teacher, for which I am thankful.

Teaching, tutoring, and laughing together. Memories of much enjoyment as we shared an office at CCC. You will be missed by many. Rest in God’s peace and light.

We are so saddened to learn of Becky's death. Although we didn't see her much after Newman days so long ago, we always thought of her with admiration in our hearts. She was a special light in this world impacting many people throughout her life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you this days and the hard days ahead.

With sincere sympathy,
