Dorothy J. Colby, age 81, of Morristown, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. Per her request, there will be no funeral or calling hours. Arrangements are entrusted to Frary Funeral Home.
Dorothy is survived by her significant other of 34 years, Herbert Lake, of Morristown, N.Y.; her children, Jeffrey Kilson of Connecticut, David Kilson of New Hampshire, Brenda Wright and her husband, Gregory of Ausable Forks, N.Y., Calvin Scott Ano and his wife, Molly of Peru, N.Y., Glen Colby and his wife, Lucy of Ogdensburg, N.Y., Joseph Scott and Dorothy Colby of Keeseville, N.Y., Francis Colby and his wife, Jeannie of Morristown, N.Y., Leonard Colby and his wife, Ruth of Kentucky, Brian Colby and his wife, Lisa of Morristown, N.Y., Norma Mae Joy and her husband, Kenneth of Ausable Forks, N.Y., Amy Faith Shalton and her husband, Chester of Jay, N.Y., Eddie Lake of Ogdensburg, N.Y., Herbert Lake Jr. of California, Bonnie Hollister and her husband, Pat of Brier Hill, N.Y., Wendy Lake and her significant other, Bim McDougal of Ogdensburg; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Colby of Utica, N.Y.; one brother, Richard Austin of New York and a sister, Judith White of Connecticut; 26 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dorothy was predeceased by children, Richard Colby and Keith Donald Colby; a sister, Irma Sayles and a brother, George Austin.
Dorothy was born on July 31, 1935, in New Milford, Conn., the daughter of Clifford and Mary Elizabeth (Jewell) Austin. She attended local schools in the area. Dorothy married Richard G. Colby on March 19, 1977, in Ausable Forks, N.Y. He predeceased her on Feb. 28, 1982. Dorothy was a store clerk and cashier at the Windmill Motor Inn for many years.
Mrs. Colby enjoyed bingo, crocheting and loved her Chihuahua, Sparky. Dorothy's greatest joy was spending time with her family and grandchildren.
