Doris's Story

Text size

Doris Lillian Newhouse Del-Zio, 73, of Boca Raton, Fla., peacefully left this life under the care of Hospice on Tuesday, July 25 following a brief illness. She was the eldest child of Joseph and Doris Newhouse, born on Nov. 13, 1943, in Plattsburgh, N.Y. As a young woman, she enjoyed the performing arts as well as watching over her two younger sisters. In 1968, she married her husband, John, and they moved to Florida soon after. Doris found her job as a Private Banker to be quite fulfilling, but her love for her family and desire to care for others always came first. She retired from her position at Northern Trust to care for her ailing husband and remained by his side until his passing in 2013. She was known for her kind and generous spirit and willingness to help others at a moment's notice. As an active member of Ascension Catholic Church, she deeply loved sharing her faith, attending Bible studies, participating in classes, and helping the less-fortunate through the ministry. Her family and friends were her greatest joy, and she will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and younger sister, Barbara. She is survived by her only child, Tammy; grandchildren Steve, Megan and John; youngest sister, Ivy; brother-in-law, John; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, at Ascension Catholic Church. A reception will follow in the parish center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ascension Catholic Church's Ministry to the Needy.
