Donald E. Taylor, 84, of Englewood, Fla. and formerly of Wilmington, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 at his home with family by his side.
He was born in Plattsburgh on Jan. 20, 1933, the son of the late Clifford and Isabelle (Shumway) Taylor.
Donald was employed by Whiteface Mountain as Ski Patrol Director for over 20 years and was in charge of safety for the Alpine Events during the 1980 Olympics. He also worked for the Operating Engineers and helped construct the Missile Silos and St. Lawrence Seaway. He was a member and former captain of the Wilmington Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth (Babcock) Taylor; his children and their spouses, Donna Ruth Benson of Englewood, Fla., Ricky Taylor of West Chazy, William J. and Uam Taylor of Omaha, Neb., Patricia and Bernard Liberty of West Chazy; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Clifford Taylor.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017 from 11 am to 1 pm at the Wilmington Church of the Nazarene. Graveside services will follow at the Haselton Cemetery in Wilmington with Pastor Doug Peck officiating .
