Mr. Donald L. Gratto, 91, of Route 374, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017, at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Dannemora on June 1, 1926, the son of the late Fred and Maude (Lashway) Gratto.
Donald served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He owned and operated Gratto Sanitation and built and operated Twin Pines Golf Course. He also was employed as a corrections officer at Clinton Correctional Facility until his retirement.
He is survived by a son, Alan Gratto of Lisbon, N.Y., Debbie and Jeffrey Langlois of Fort Wayne, Ind., Donna Mitchell of Kingwood, Texas, a sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Les Stiles of Sweet Home, Ore., his grandchildren: Amy (Michael)Robinson, Rebecca (Paul) Rible, Aubrey (Jon) Spuhler, Kelsey Searcy, 10 great-grandchildren and one on the way, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Shirley (Martin) Gratto, his second wife, Ruth (Mitchell) Gratto, his siblings, Lillian Drollette, Ethel Tripp and James Gratto.
Calling hours will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25, at St. Joseph's Church in Dannemora. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at St. John's Cemetery in Keeseville. Memorial donations may be offered to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center.
