Daniel's Story

Daniel James "Ox" Corey, 38, of Wolworth Way, Saranac, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, in Saranac.
He was born in Rutland, Vt., Oct. 16, 1978, the son of Lyle and Wendy (Burnham) Corey. Dan grew up in Danby, Vt., and graduated from Mill River Union High School in 1997. He continued his education at Paul Smith's College from 2001 until graduating with a Bachelors in 2005.
During his time in college he met his future wife, the former Pamela S. Hyde. They married at their home in Saranac on Sept. 3, 2011.
Dan was a finish carpenter and contractor for the respected Cascade Builders of Saranac Lake, working on many upscale Adirondack Great Camps.
He was a member of FFA, NRA, North American Hunting Club and competed collegiately with the Woodsmens Team of Paul Smiths' College along side Pam. He was also an active member in the Forestry Club and served as a Head Resident at several dorms on and off campus where he was known as "Ox."
Dan enjoyed being outdoors with his family and friends. Camping, hiking, canoing, four wheeling, fishing, cooking over campfires and always recognized when someone needed help. He was multi-talented and skilled in many trades. Dan, with the help of his family, built his own home in Saranac that is run solely on solar power. His most prized possession was the recent purchase of his own portable sawmill.
Left to cherish the memory of Dan are, his wife, Pamela Corey; his beloved children, Tanner James (6) and Cayden Patrick (2); mother, Wendy R. Corey; brothers Roger A. Corey (and wife Amanda) and Sean P. Corey, several aunts and uncles, and too many friends and family to mention.
He was predeceased by his father, Lyle James Corey; and his grandparents Gerald and Catherine Corey.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 9, in the Scottsville Cemetery in Danby, Vt.
