Text size

On Feb. 21, 2018, Daniel Megan, AKA Anastasia Megan, passed away at his family's home in Center Hill, Fla, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, 20 years of age.
Daniel was a triplet, born May 19, 1997 in Burlington Vt., the child of John Megan and Louise Racine.
Home schooled with his siblings for most of his younger years, Daniel also attended Alexandria Central School, and graduated in 2011.
A gifted student and musician, Daniel was admitted to Queens University, Kingston Ontario at age 14, and graduated with honors, a Bachelor's degree in Commerce in November,2016.
In April of 2015 Anastasia commenced a gender transition process in Kingston, loved and supported by his family, and was now Daniel Lawrence Megan, by order of the province of Ontario. Sadly like so many other young people electing to make this change, Dan was plagued by depression, and struggled with the effects of the drugs and therapies involved in the change, further exacerbated by pressures and obstacles created by the laws, as well as the attitudes of the times. When these pressures became more than Dan could bear, he took his life, a brilliant intellect and a vibrant personality now lost forever.
Dan was a dedicated and advanced kiteboarding enthusiast, with several years of experience; and took great pleasure in the pursuit of this, his favorite sport. He was an accomplished musician, with piano and guitar skills. He was employed as the Administrative Assistant at First Route Driving School in Kingston, Ontario.
The love of his life as well as his best friend, Emily Fuller, is now left without him. Dan is survived by his parents, his brother triplet, Zigmund Megan, Owen Sound, On.; by his sister triplet, Elizabeth Megan, Kingston, On.; his sister, Laura Megan-Posch of Sumter, S. C.; his sister, Suzanne Landkamer of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; his aunt and uncle, Tom and Cathy Megan of Redwood, N.Y.; and his Aunt Barbara Jahn of Orlando, Fla.
The family anticipates a celebration of his life will be held this summer at the family's summer vacation home near Alexandria Bay, N.Y.; and will announce this at the appropriate time.
