Dana's Story

Dana C. Peck, 96, died Feb. 12, 2018. He was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Wilmington, the son of John and Eleanor (Greene) Peck. He attended the one room school on Hardy Road in Wilmington before graduating from AuSable Forks High School.
His early years were spent on the family farm. He attended trade school in Plattsburgh and then worked for Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, Md. He was involved in the production of B-26 "Martin Marauder" bombers until 1944 then served in the U.S. Army as a radar technician.
He married Jane Hardy on June 3, 1944, and they had three sons, Gregory, Douglas and Dana.
He worked at Haselton Lumber and in 1960 became maintenance manager at Paleface Ski Center and Dude Ranch. Later he worked at Whiteface Mountain, retiring in 1986. He was elected to the Wilmington Board of Assessors in 1972 where he served until his death.
He was a faithful member of the Wilmington Church of the Nazarene and a dedicated supporter of the Wilmington Holiness Camp Meeting. His awards included the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Whiteface Regional Visitor's Bureau in 2006 and the Church of the Nazarene Distinguished Service Award.
During his retirement Dana had a large garden and put vegetables on a roadside table labeled "FREE."
He is survived by his wife Jane of 73 years, three sons: Gregory (Kathy), Douglas (Jill), Dana D. (Marcia), six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings: John, Donald, Robert, Albert, Ruth, Rita, and Natalie.
A memorial service will be on Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at the Wilmington Church of the Nazarene. Friends are encouraged to gather from noon to 1 p.m. for a time of reflection and conversation. A memorial service will convene at 1 p.m., Pastor Grace Govenettio officiating, with burial to follow at the Haselton Cemetery.
