Col. John's Story
Col. John D. Dan Navin (USAF Retired), 75, of Hillcrest Avenue, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 at his home with family by his side. He was born in Burlington, Vermont on June 11, 1942, the son of the late Harry and Elizabeth (Ryan) Navin.
Dan served in the U.S. Air Force for 44 years as a Fighter Pilot and flew multiple aircraft for the Vermont Air National Guard including the F-16. He was the Vice Commander of the first numbered Air Force in the Air National Guard. He was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed the Masters Tournament. He will be most remembered for his hard work, his sense of humor, and his love for his country and his family.
He is survived by his children and their spouses; Sean and Jennifer Navin of Fresno, Ca., Beth and Scott Cutaiar, Richard Navin, Katie and Robert Calkins, all of Plattsburgh, the mother of his children; Mary Ellen Navin of Plattsburgh, his step children; Kenny Strifert and Lauren and Steven Walker, his siblings and their spouses; Elizabeth Navin of Burlington, VT., Eileen Kolosky of Ontario, Dick and Mary Navin of South Burlington, VT., Dale and Charlie Stinchfield of Ponte Vedra , FL., 17 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 6:00 pm at the Plattsburgh Church of the Nazarene. A Memorial Mass at St. John Vianney Church in South Burlington, Vermont and interment with full military honors will be held at Resurrection Park Cemetery in South Burlington, Vermont at a later date.
Memorial donations may be offered to Hospice of the North Country. The family wishes to thank Hospice for the compassionate care given to Dan and his family.
