Clement A. Gebo, 88, a longtime resident of Newington, passed away at his home on Friday, June 2, 2017, with his wife at his side. Born on Dec. 21, 1928, in Rouses Point, N.Y., Clement was one of ten children of the late Euzeb and Marie (Trombley) Gebo and the husband of Phyllis (Bishop) Gebo of Newington. Clement attended the Hartt School of Music, now the University of Hartford, graduating with the Class of 1955. He was fond of referring to the school as "I attended the college when it was on Broad Street." His love of music led to his career teaching band orchestra and general music in New York, Wallingford, retiring from the Newington Board of Education after sharing his joy of music with his students for 32 years. As a craftsman, he lovingly constructed beautiful violins and bows and repaired and restored orchestral string instruments. He was a part of the CT Music Educators Association and was a member, 3rd Degree with the Knights of Columbus, Council 3884, Newington.
Besides his wife Phyllis, Clement is survived by his sons, Gregory J. Gebo and his wife, Cathy Drake of New Orleans, Carl A. Gebo, Esq., of Atlanta, Ga.; his siblings, Leo Gebeaux, Alice Nolette, George Gebo, and B. Jeanette Troie, with whom he lived while attending college; his grandchildren, Gregory J. Gebo II, Glenn B. Gebo, Grant W. Gebo, and Julia G. Gebo, as well as many nieces and nephews. Clement was predeceased by his beloved son, Eric W. Gebo in 1986 as well as five of his siblings who all passed before the age of seven.
Funeral services for Mr. Gebo will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, June 6, at Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Newington. Rites of committal will follow the Mass at the family graveside in West Meadow Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening, June 5, at the funeral home.
