Christopher M. Lyng, 64, of Malone passed away Monday, August 7, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Born Dec. 15, 1952 in Malone, N.Y., he was the son of Edward and Gertrude (Perry) Lyng.
Chris graduated from St Joseph's Academy, Malone in 1970 and from Albany Business College in 1972. He was employed at the family operated Hallmart Food Shoppe for 25 years and then at John Harvey Sales, retiring in 2013. Chris was involved in the community in a variety of ways; a life member of the American Motorcyclist Association, member of the Sons of the American Legion, Malone Post 219, Lake Placid Ironman Volunteer, member of the North Country Retreads, and past president of the Snowdrifters Snowmobile Club. He was a past member of the Malone Golf Club, playing and winning in the Monday and Tuesday night Men's league. Some of Chris's many interests included being an avid Olympic pin and patch collector, listening to the music and characters found on CHOM 97.7, and attending many concerts at the Montreal Forum. For many years, Chris attended the Lake George Americade and he always had a passion for riding his motorcycle with friends and family.Chris was a communicant of Notre Dame Church, Malone NY.
He is survived by five siblings, Jeanne and her husband John LaVoie of Malone, Patrick and his wife Susan Lyng of Malone, Diana Lyng-Gliddi and her husband Thomas Gliddi of Malone, Nancy Lyng and her fiance Jeffrey Gillham of Delmar, and Thomas Lyng of Cadyville. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Sarah Vensel and her wife Renee Oden, Erin Vensel and her husband Tarek Lakhanisky, Adam Lyng and his companion Maddie Hope, James and his wife Jean Lyng, Knut Gliddi and his companion Katie Secore, Nicholas LaVada and Mia LaVada; Great nieces and nephew, Naima Lakhanisky, Yarah Lakhanisky, and Mason Lyng. Others surviving are his Aunt, Shirley Mitchell; many cousins; and a close friend Debbie Boyea.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, his grandparents Edward and Louvah Perry, and James and Irene Lyng, aunts, uncles, and a cousin.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m on Monday, August 21 at Notre Dame Church with Father Scott Belina officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lake Titus Road, Malone.The celebration of Chris's life will be then continue at the American Legion, Malone Post 219, 53 Morton Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Sons of the American Legion Scholarship Fund, Malone Post 219.
