Catherine Rose (Dumas) Mayo, born Jan. 18, 1923, in Mooers, N.Y., of Sciota and Chazy Landing, passed at CVPH on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018. Catherine is survived by her son Alan, grandsons Nathan and Jamie and granddaughter Angie, as well as her sister Rita (Joseph) Rock and an extended family of whom she was very proud. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Dora and Peter Dumas, husband Raymond, brother Robert and sister Vesina, and nephew Dick and grandson Jeffrey Mayo.
Married in Mooers, Catherine and Raymond were farmers and longtime owners of the country store in Sciota. Cat enjoyed a good card game and loved living on Lake Champlain. She also enjoyed working with macrame and ceramics and in her younger years love to fish on Lake Champlain. In her later years she overcame her fear of swimming and enjoyed swimming at the YMCA in Plattsburgh.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 12 o'clock noon Saturday, March 3, at The Church of St. Mary in Champlain, N.Y. A celebration of her life will follow at the VFW in Champlain.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center in memory of her brother, Robert Dumas.
