Carlton "Carly" G. Rounds, 78, of Lyon Mountain, N.Y. died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018 at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh. Born on August 26, 1939 in Plattsburgh, N.Y., he was the son of Leonard "Teddy" and Geraldine (Benware) Rounds.
He was married to Ann Collins on May 31, 1980.
He graduated from Lyon Mountain High School in 1957 and attended one year of college at Plattsburgh State. He served in the U.S. Army for two years before being honorably discharged. He started working as a corrections officer in Green Haven, doing outside rounds on a horse. He then went to work for Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora and finally retired from Lyon Mountain Correctional Facility after 34 years of service.
He played baseball since he was a young boy. He played while stationed in Hawaii and even played for the governor. He was a pitcher, catcher and hit many home runs for the Lyon Mountain Miners. He also enjoyed playing softball and basketball. He enjoyed going to casinos, playing pinochle with his friends, spending vacations at Old Orchard Beach, Hampton Beach and especially Myrtle Beach. He loved being with family and friends and having a good time with lots of laughs. He could watch his favorite westerns, Josey Wales and Jeremiah Johnson over and over again. He was a lifelong member of the Lyon Mountain American Legion Post 1623. He was also president of Council 82 for his tenure at Lyon Mountain Correctional Facility.
Carly is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ann; a son, Carl and Zaidi Rounds; two daughters, Jody and her husband Trent Ernst, Genessa Rounds and Conan Trudeau; five step grandchildren, Miranda and Ethan Ernst, Brandi Trudeau, Kelsy Trudeau and Dakota Trudeau; a step great-granddaughter, Bella Rose Trudeau; a granddaughter, Serenity Trudeau to be born June 2018; a brother, Tim and Margo Rounds of Lyon Mountan; three sisters-in-law, Becky Bailey of Cullman, Ala., Loretta and Bob Breyette of West Chazy, Mary and Gary LaMora of Morrisonville; a brother-in-law, John Held of Pahrump, Nev.; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and a special nephew, Timmy Joe Rounds whom he thought the world of and spent lots of hunting, fishing and good times at Hunting Camp Cobble Hill with.
He is predeceased by his parents, Leonard "Teddy" and Geraldine (Benware) Rounds; his father and mother-in-law, Winfred and Belva Collins; brother-in-law, Kurmit (Bill) Bailey; sister-in-law, Linda Collins Held; an infant grandson, Mark Muschara Jr.; two nieces, Debbie (Bailey) Swearagen and Sabrina Brosenne.
Calling hours will be held at St. Bernard's Church in Lyon Mountain on Friday, Jan. 19 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5 p.m. Burial will take place at St. Bernard's Cemetery in the Spring.
