Carl's Story

Carl Hughes Merrill, 92, of Moriah, N.Y., born May 10, 1925, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, June 8, 2017, at CVPH Medical Center-UVM. Carl served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired from the Dairy League Milk Plant in Crown Point after 25 years of employment. After his retirement, he worked at Frontier Town and for Essex County Highway Dept. Carl enjoyed time spent with his family the most, long walks with his German Shepard named King, watching his old shows like "The Walton's" and listening to old country music. Carl missed special time with his wife Ruth and they were married for 69 years.
Carl was predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Jenny (Hughes) Merrill and his wife, Ruth (O'Dell) Merrill, as well as his five sisters. Carl is survived by his daughter and her husband, Barbara and Allen Supernault; his son, James (Jimmy) Merrill Sr.; his daughter and husband, Penny and Robert DePew; his grandchildren, David Supernault (Kathy), James (Jimmy) Merrill Jr., Carla Merrill (Ryan), Joseph (Joey) Merrill, Christine (Cook) and Scott Peters, Eric Kendall Supernault, and Adam Cook. Carl was also survived by several great-grandchildren.
Carl's family would also like to give a special thank you to the Essex Center Nursing Home for his great care the past few years on Unit 1.
Carl's family would also like to give a special thank you to CVPH Medical Center-UVM staff for his phenomenal care during his stay in the hospital. Especially for the superior care and kindness from his nurses, Sarah Spooner and Jon. As well an extra thanks to the staff and Sarah and Jon for their great care and support of his family.
The services for Carl are scheduled at the Moriah Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, followed by a graveside service at the South Moriah Cemetery on (South) Moriah Road.
