Bonnie Joy Gonyo

Events

Bonnie Joy Gonyo, 62, of Perry's Mills, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, Aug. 10, 2019, with her loving family by her side.
She and her twin brother Ronnie were born in Potsdam, Oct. 5, 1956, the children of the late Bert and Evelyn (Fitch) Boas.
Bonnie graduated from Northeastern Clinton Central School in 1974. While she never cut her children's hair without a nip to the neck or tragically crooked bangs, she swore she also received a Certificate of Cosmetology from BOCES that same year.
Following graduation, she went on to have two daughters and dedicated her early life to being an incredible stay-at-home Mom. She instilled in her girls a love of reading, learning, music, humor, and cooking. Well...one daughter caught on to cooking...the other can usually be found at the McDonald's drive thru.
In 1984, Bonnie was excited to join Ayerst Labs where she served various roles between the Rouses Point and Chazy facilities. It was particularly during this time she taught her girls independence, the value of hard work, and to always pull their weight. After 27 years with Ayerst/Wyeth she went on to find her true calling as a Direct Support Specialist with Advocacy and Resource Center, Rouses Point. Her true passion in life has always been caring for others - from ailing parents, in-laws, and most recently her husband to the changing needs of her family over the years. She shone brightly in this role and will be missed by so many.
Aside from spending time with family, Bonnie loved cooking, crocheting, canning fruits and vegetables, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune (usually beating us all at both!), visiting the Amish, having lunch at Cherry Knoll, and taking road trips. Two years in a row she was grateful to travel to Florida with her twin to visit their brother, Richard. She treasured that time with her brothers and spoke of it often.
Always quick with a joke, a hug, or sage advice Bonnie's sudden passing has left an unfillable void in the lives of many. She will be missed immeasurably by her husband of 32 years, Harold "Junior" Gonyo; her daughters, Amy (Peter Bromby) DuBois of Rouses Point, Danielle (Rick Bourgeois) DuBois of Alburgh, Vt.; her "babies," Abbey and Max Favro of Rouses Point, Cameron (Allyson Duprey) Bushey of Chazy, and Calli and Colton Bushey of Alburgh, Vt.; a sister, Barbara (Paul) Cady of Cato; brother, Richard (Rita Laurin) Boas of Taveres, Fla.; her beloved twin brother, Ronnie (Alena Moore) Boas of Mooers; many treasured nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her dogs, Tia and Waffles.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, from 11 to 1 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers. A funeral service will follow in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bob Phillips, officiating. Committal prayers and entombment will follow in the Whispering Maples Memorial Mausoleum in Ellenburg Depot.
Anyone who knew her knows she'd be embarrassed by all the attention; but her family would love everyone to join them for a celebration of this wonderful woman's life, at the Champlain VFW Post 1418, immediately following the committal prayers.
Bonnie's family would like to commend the Champlain-Mooers EMS and the Rouses Point Rescue Squad for their professionalism and compassion the night of her passing. They went above and beyond to ensure her family's comfort and understanding every step of the way. They will forever be grateful.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Champlain-Mooers EMS.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers, 236-4747. To offer an online condolence, share a symbolic gesture, or share a photo in memory of Bonnie Gonyo please visit www.hamiltonfuneralhome.com
