Betty M. Amell, 92, formerly of West Plattsburgh, passed away with her loving family by her side on Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017.
She was born in Saranac Lake on Nov. 25, 1925, the daughter of Lawrence and Clara (Haskins) Gowett.
Family was the fabric of Betty's life. She was a stay-at-home Mom before you ever heard that phrase.
With a sparkle in her eye and a smile that greeted you with "Hi, Hon," she made family and friends feel they were at home in her presence. In her later years she could be seen in the back room of Ronnie's Michigan Stand making sauce and chopping onions.
Betty was a member of St. Alexander's Church and a former member of the Altar Rosary Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and volunteer at Catholic Charities. She was an integral part in her children's scouting, 4H, civic youth organization activities, and school functions. She provided quality and loving care for many grandchildren.
Survivors include her beloved children, Gary Amell (Alan Roberts) of Chazy, Beverly DuBray of Cadyville, Susan (Evan) Myers of Cadyville,Thomas (Patti) Amell of Tupper Lake, Jill (Terry) Lagree of West Plattsburgh, John Amell of Plattsburgh, David Amell (fiancee, Jennifer Galarneau) of Clayburg, Betty (Norm) Baker of Cadyville; fifteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Lawrence Gowett of Frankfort, N.Y.; and two sisters-in-law, Joan Amell and Shirley Amell.
She was predeceased by her parents and loving husband of 53 years, Maynard Amell, son-in-law, Edward DuBray and sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Silver Deliberto, sisters-in-law, Winifred Petrashune, Betty Amell, and Anna Mae Amell, brothers-in-law, Bernard, Armand and Arnold Amell.
