Bernard A. Barber
He was born in Chazy Lake, Sept. 20, 1926, the son of Andrew and Lorena (Dubrey) Barber. Bernard graduated from Dannemora High School in 1943. He married the former Dorothy E. Couture, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 1946. She predeceased him Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, following 67 loyal and loving years of marriage.
Bernard worked at the Lyon Mountain mines, Imperial Wallpaper Mill, operated a dairy farm and owned and operated Bernard Barber Sales & Service, where he sold and repaired lawn mowers, chain saws, and snowmobiles. Following retirement he was elected Town of Schuyler Falls Supervisor, appointed Deputy Town Clerk, and also served on the Board of Assessment Review Committee.
He was a member of St. Alexander's Church, Knights of Columbus Council 6067 3rd Degree, Morrisonville Fire Department Police, and former President and Director of the Clinton County Fair, for 51 years. He enjoyed woodworking in his spare time.
Left to cherish the memory of Bernard are, his two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Robert Conners of Morrisonville, and Mary and Tom Sears of Beekmantown; five grandchildren and their spouses, William and Shannon Conners of Morrisonville, Elizabeth "Beth" and Jamy Begor of Mooers Forks, Tina and Ricky Jubert of Morrisonville, Michelle and Lee "Gary" Vaughn of Plattsburgh, and Tammy and Randy Spoor of Beekmantown; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kolby Rawleigh of Plattsburgh, Emily and Fiana Conners of Morrisonville, and Ethan and Amanda Vaughn of Plattsburgh; one great-great-grandson, Brantley Rawleigh; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Bernadette Favaro of Cadyville, and Genevieve and Ronald LaDuke of Plattsburgh; sister-in-law, Mildred Barber; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and spouse, he was predeceased by his brother, Francis Barber; and brother-in-law, Calvin Favaro.
Relatives and friends may call Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Alexander's Church, 1 Church Street, Morrisonville. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 O'clock, with Rev. Scott R. Seymour, parish priest, celebrating. A reception will follow in Jubilee Hall. Committal prayers and burial will be held in the spring in the parish cemetery.
Bernard's family would like to offer a most sincere and very special "thank you" to the owners, staff, and residents, of 260 Lake Street in Rouses Point for making the last years of his life comfortable and happy. His family is also most grateful to his caregiver, Janie Letourneau, for all of her care and kindness, his driver, Jim Carey, for all the rides to his appointments, and Dr. Ceamitru and the R5 staff for the excellent care Bernard and his family received.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Morrisonville Fire Department or 260 Lake Street Activities Room.
