Ann E. Hollop Ann E. Hollop, of Lake Forest Drive, Plattsburgh, N.Y., passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh. She was 82.
Ann was born in Oswego, N.Y., on June 11, 1936, the daughter of Dr. George and Marion (Hennessey) Marsden. She graduated from Oswego High School, received her Bachelor's degree in education from Oswego State University, and completed a Masters degree in education at Syracuse University.
After college, Ann got married and lived in several cities in the Northeast before settling in Plattsburgh. She stayed at home for several years to raise her three children before returning to her profession as a special education teacher in the city school district, where she worked for 25 years.
Being a direct descendant of George Marsden, who during the Revolutionary War served as an Adjutant to good friend George Washington in the Continental Army, Ann was intensely proud of her American heritage. She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
In her free time, Ann enjoyed playing golf, traveling, trips to casinos, gathering with girlfriends over lunch, and spending time with family especially during the holidays. In her retirement, she served as a literacy volunteer and also volunteered at the hospital and food pantry.
Ann was predeceased by her parents and brothers Larry Marsden and Richard Marsden.
She is survived by a sister, Marion Hennessey, of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and a brother, George Marsden, of Rochester, N.Y., daughters, Elizabeth Hollop, of Suffolk, United Kingdom, and Jennifer Kekis (John), of Voorheesville, N.Y., son John Hollop (Cara), of Albany, N.Y., and 10 grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan, Kara, Alex, Chloe, Mia, Tessa, Gabriel, Daniel, and Alice Ann, and great-grandson, Noah.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at St. John's Church in Plattsburgh. Burial will be later in the year at St. Peter's Cemetery in Oswego.
Memorial donations may be made to the DAR's Saranac Chapter in Plattsburgh.
