Albert E. LaPoint, 75, of the Shutts Rd, Merrill died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017 at CVPH Medical Center, Plattsburgh, NY.
Born in Lyon Mountain, NY on Sept. 21, 1941, he was the son of Howard and Bernice (Laflesh) LaPoint.
Albert was employed at McCadam Cheese in Chateaugay. He owned and operated a trash removal company, aided many summer camps on Chateaugay lake and in his early years, was employed at the Brainardsville IGA and Scott's IGA in Ellenburg as a meat cutter. He was a former member of Conklin Pond Hunting Club, Little Camp Hunting Club and Still Waters Hunting Club. Albert loved playing cards, working with his John Deere tractor, fishing and hunting. He was always active and on the go.
Albert is survived by his companion, Betty Charland of Merrill and her children, Norma and Michael Reitano of Averill Park, NY, Norman and Tina Charland of Lyon Mountain; two grandsons, Kyle Charland and his companion, Brianna Rock and their son, Brayden, Tyler Charland and his companion, Morgan Collins; two granddaughters, Emma and Anita Reitano; siblings, Jeannette DuBrey of Lyon Mountain, Sally Kline and her companion, Bob Lacey of Plattsburgh, Thomas LaPoint and his wife, Peggy of Chazy Lake, Genevieve Mailloux and her husband, Johnny of Brainardsville, Diane Shutts and her husband, Bruce of Merrill; sisters-in-law, Jackie LaPoint of Merrill, Judy Humiston LaPoint of Connecticut, Judy Vincent LaPoint of Chazy Lake; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; a son, Albert Charland; Betty's son, Nelson Charland; brothers and sisters, Howard LaPoint Jr., George, Robert, William, and Phillip LaPoint, Barb Collins, Mary Rita Cayea; brother-in-law, John "Pug" Cayea; a great-grandson, Aiyden Rock.
Calling hours will be held at Chateaugay Funeral Home on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 3 to 6 p.m. A prayer service will immediately follow at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with CLM Cora Smith of Brainardsville United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Lyon Mountain.
